On 26 June 2011, we commemorated the life and death of Comdt. Michael
Marren who died on 11 July 1921 — the date of the truce. Marren’s feats
are almost legendary in the South Sligo area where he grew up and
commanded Irish forces during the war for independence.Michael Colreavy, T.D., was the featured orator. Commemoration was followed by a barbeque social at Donegan's Pub, Ballaghdereen Road, Gurteen.

Noble Six CommemorationNorth Sligo Sinn Féin held a wreath laying ceremony in remembrance of ‘Sligo’s Noble Six’ at Lislahelly, Glencar on Sun 26th Sept 10 at 12 noon. The main oration was given by Leitrim Councillor Michael Colreavy. 2010 marks the 88th Anniversary of the killing of Brigadier Seamus Devins TD, Div. Adj. Brian McNeill, Capt. Harry Benson, Lieut. Paddy Carroll, Vols. Tommy Langan and Joe Banks – who were gunned down on Benbulben Mountain in September, 1922.

We hold many educational weekends and talks with prominent members of the party throughout the course of the year. This we feel helps bond us all together and make new friends along the way too. Easter Commemorations
The main ceremony for County Sligo took place in Sligo Cemetery. This year’s main speaker was Sean MacBradaigh, Sinn Féin National Director of Publicity. Pictures Easter 2010 here.
There was also a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the grave of Volunteer Martin Savage, Ballisodare, Easter Sunday Morning.
Easter is a time, when as republicans, we remember the brave men and women who have fought and died for the cause of Irish Freedom from a foreign oppressor. Sinn Féin are the only organisation in County Sligo that marked the event in any meaningful manner.
Commemoration Held: A wreath-laying ceremony in remembrance of Sligo Republican Joe MacManus from Maugheraboy, Sligo who was killed in Fermanagh in February, 1992 was held Sunday, 7th February at 12 pm in Sligo City Cemetery.
