ARTHUR GIBBONS

Arthur was first elected to Sligo Borough Council in 1999 and retained his seat in 2004 increasing his vote significantly. He is married to Celene with six children, he is self employed and a member of the following organisations; People with Disabilities Ireland (PWDI), The Disability Consultative Committee, Traveller Consultative Committee and holds the position of Chair of the Sligo Access Committee. He is also a member of Sligo Music Festival Committee.

Arthur has been an active member of Cartron Bay Residents Association, the Irish Foster Care Association and the International Foster Care Association. A tireless Councillor and Community Activist, he consistently campaigns on behalf of local communities throughout the North Ward defending their rights and securing proper funding for the areas needs, especially where children’s safety is concerned. An Anti-Drugs activist, he also campaigns on numerous national and international issues, against the war in Iraq, promoting Irish Neutrality, against the privatisation of essential public services and exposing corruption within political life.
